THE SCENARIO:
 

THE DATE:

January 11th, 2013


After years of prepping, the unthinkable occurs... Your greatest fears weren't even close.

An unknown cataclysmic event has wiped out 99.9% of the Earth's population.


You and your family were lucky enough to survive.


After 6 months, you still haven't seen or heard any evidence that there is anyone still alive. You and your family have created a mode of living that has become pleasant and relativley easy to maintain.


Eventually, you give up hope of finding anyone else, and begin to look to the future...




Several days later, you notice a green army-style personnel carrier coming towards your home. The truck pulls up to your home, and 20 or so armed men in military uniforms jump out of the back. A man gets out of the passenger side of the truck, and informs you that he is a Colonial in the US Army, and that he has orders to locate, and collect all survivors. He says that you and your family will be taken to a refugee camp where you will be taken care of. No other details are given. He makes it clear that you have no choice, and that you (and your family) WILL come with him...

Yep, thats my nightmare scenario like my Daughters dream. The Government rounding you up to put you in those camps they are building.

My thoughts are they have to find you first. I have our hideout spot all picked out.

Mega ditto that......... make sure you are have a place to dig in at a moments notice.

If anybody were to show up....especially the army . you know it is not good for you. by all means try to flee but it you cant . YOU MAKE YOUR STAND RIGHT THERE AND FIGHT WITH LIKE THE DEVIL HAS POSSESED YOU, THERE IS NO SECOND CHANCE......... THIS IS IT. YOU MAY (not likely)JUST SCARE THEM OFF CAUSE THE DIDNT EXPECT CONFRONTATION.

That is longshot I know ........ but the ideal is to laylow .

Bob Dylan could both see and feel VISIONS and a person can gleen WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING both of the FUTURE and the PASSED by PONDERING in a HOT TUB and listening to old Dylan albumes --- at least it works for ME --- but then I am a DUCK. ;)

Simply best to just not be found, period. A castle under siege will ultimately lose do to lack of resources.

If someone is on the way to your "hidey-hole" you had better leave and make like you have been gone for a while. Always have a secondary retreat that you can get to in a moments notice. Odds are in the above situation they will simply paint your front door like they do in most evacuations and leave assuming they don't suspect someone is living there. Obviously if you have a maintained garden and surrounding area that would be hard to do. You should consider this post-SHTF by keeping your dwelling in such a way that it doesn't look inhabited if someone were to gaze upon it.

Hopefully you would have already established a parameter patrol and/or at least a LP/OP at this point and would have detected the oncoming convoy in plenty of time to act.

What about setting up cameras hooked up to motion sensors, etc?
I mean, if you have the money to afford that kinda stuff.
If you're living in the sticks alone with your family and there is no-one else to be found, you could raid a security store for supplies to set up a perimeter that would warn you of any trucks coming down the road a kilometer in advance.
Just a thought.

In the 6 months that had passed, I'd have already cleaned out the local guard armory......that cheeky 'colonial' better show up with more than 20.....Little Johny sitting in the OP would flip the switches to the Claymores when I raised my left hand, and those alone would have done away with them....wife probably wouldn't even have to use the LAW rocket.

But more so than not SOMEBODY else had to survive . The odds would just be too great that you were the only one... weather on not you make contact with other survivors...... that is like hitting the lottery.



I also agree with dave ......make your place look inhospitable so most will just pass by if they are unfriendly (The best battle is no battle at all) and search to locate another retreat futher inland ( shouldnt be hard to do).

Either way that is a hellified scenario to be in.

I would make them show evidence of a still fuctioning government and that they indeed had your best interests at heart. But in the end I doubt you or anyone else would have a choice in the matter.

Reminds me of the scene in Jericho where the phony platoon showed up with the tank needing fuel.

QWAK,Moderate Mammal, You can't actualy MAKE any one DO any thing and you CAN be relitively shure that IF/WHEN they show up, they WILL have a very believable story, ESPECIALY when people WANT even NEED to have somthing to BELIEVE because most of what they HAD believed turnes out to be FALSE and has turned in to DUST!:cryin2::bawling::signs14:

When it gets down to actualy SURVIVING, no matter what the situation is, a persons true colors come out and they discover both STRENTHS and WEAKNESES with in them selves that they had not expected were there.:thinkey:

All situations are diferent but similar too and people tend to shut down there higher faculties and react on RAW EMOTIONS which is almost always a mistake but that is what they do any way.

I can tell you from pratical experience (started on the DUCK NEST in 81) that things almost NEVER go down AS PLANED, that is LIFE and REALITY.

TRUST must be EARNED,it is DEBASED and DEVALUED when handed out too easaly and can ONLY be TESTED under real life situations and observing how people deal with them.

The sad truth is that people tend to let you down and virtualy always have their own AGENDA and set of PRIORITIES which you should always be aware that they may be deferent from what they SAY they are and they will virtualy alwats SAY what they think YOU want to hear!

There are tons of anti-tank weapons out there in civilian hands. Some registered, some not. If the scenario happens, I would be collecting anything of value from the 99.9% that vanished.
